You can confidently help your teen navigate the college process.

In this 5-week online course, we will cut through the noise on college admission and build a framework for you and your teen to tackle the college admissions process with less stress and overwhelm, and more joy, focus, and connection as a family.

You’re in the right place if:

  • You are the parent of a student who will be applying to college within the next few years. While most parents have 9th through 11th graders, if you are a parent of an 8th grader who likes to plan ahead, this course will absolutely get you in the right frame of mind for approaching all things college during the high school years.

  • You are seeking more connection and a healthy relationship with your teen in the years before they head off to college. Real talk: college admission can put a strain on your relationship with your teen. You will not always see eye to eye, and it’s a balancing act to figure out how to help without overstepping boundaries. You want a toolbox to tackle tough conversations and get on the same page, so you can be their number one cheerleader and sounding board, not a source of their stress.

  • You want to empower your teen to develop skills of decision-making, self-awareness, self-care, and self-advocacy. These skills (among many many others) are seeped into the college admission process–while there is an “outcome” attached to it (getting into amazing colleges that will set your teen up for success), there is so much life learning to be had in the process.

  • You are a busy parent. Sure, you can find good information all over the internet and cobble together a makeshift plan. But you don’t have time to sift through all of the outdated information, fear-mongering, and frankly, bad advice that doesn’t put your teen’s development, mental health, and your family’s changing relationship at the forefront.

You want a clear, simple framework so you don’t drown in the college noise out there.

New to my little corner of the internet?

I’m glad you made it here.

Meet Sara Purviance

I’m Sara Purviance, founder of Mindset College Collective. Here’s a quick resume-in-prose for those who don’t know me yet: as a school-based college counselor, former associate director of admission (at Colorado College, a highly selective private college), and mom of three, I’m always looking for ways to simplify processes, help students get to know their real selves, and find educational next steps where they will challenge themselves and thrive.

With nearly two decades of experience as an educator (most of these years working specifically within selective college admission on both the college and high school sides of the desk) and a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Development, I am poised to help your family approach this important life decision with the care, knowledge, self-reflection, and growth mindset it deserves.

I want to help parents give themselves grace and support their teens without taking away the ownership and self-efficacy students need for a successful launch.

My approach to successful college admission believes that you can both have a great college outcome and a healthier relationship with your teen.

But my approach is not for everyone.

My program is not a great fit for you if:

  • You are just looking to “game” the system and view college admission as a prize to be won.

  • You would rather outsource this process entirely and not be involved in your teen’s college process and big life decision/transition.

  • Your teen is not considering applying to 4-year colleges (this is not to say that you won’t learn relevant information if your child is applying to trade school or 2-year programs, but that is not my expertise).

Most parents I’ve worked with admit to feeling lost, overwhelmed, stressed out, or just not knowing where to begin.

That’s why I created From Stressed to Joyful: The Parents’ Plan for College Admission.

This course will give you a clear and actionable plan for navigating the college admission process with confidence.

By the end of this program you will:

  1. Have established family rules and key decisions that will be the foundation for your teen’s healthy and joyful college admission process.

  2. Have a roadmap for helping your teen get started with research and visiting colleges (without feeling overwhelmed or spending way too many hours figuring it out on your own).

  3. Know the anatomy of your teen’s Ideal College List (and how to get there).

  4. Understand how to best support your teen when they are filling out their applications and writing their essays.

  5. Feel prepared to launch your teen to college, while understanding the developmental changes they are going through and how to strengthen a healthy relationship with your emerging adult.

Don’t just take my word for it.

Here’s what you’ll get inside the course:

Module 1: Establishing Family Rules and Essential Decisions

Module 2: Getting Started: Research and Visiting Colleges

Module 3: Creating the Ideal College List
