Let’s destress and simplify the college process, shall we?

The college admission process can be downright overwhelming...amidst the craziness and uncertainty the last couple years have thrown at us, it’s no wonder that college admission stress is at an all-time high.

Parenting a teen is stressful enough...you worry you are doing too much (helicopter parent? Or is it snowplow now?) or too little (second-guessing yourself every time you hear another parent go on and on about all they are doing for their child).

One thing is certain: college has taken up way too much brain space lately; am I right? There are several problems: the media glorifying plummeting admission rates at 30 of the roughly 3,000 colleges and universities out there, the astronomical sticker prices (take a deep breath, there are ways to make it affordable), and the peer pressure in many communities to achieve the right bumper sticker (yup, student and parent peer pressure).

When we focus on developing whole humans, {think: self-reflection, personal development, and mindfulness}, our students are happier, more mature, independent, resilient, and self-directed.

Oh, and they also are thrilled with their chosen colleges.

Meet Mindset College Collective

As a school-based college counselor, I see how easy it is to fall into the trap of thinking of the college process as just a means to an end…a game to play and a network to develop to achieve the shiniest prize.

Our goal? The college admission process should not be a stressful experience full of comparison, fear-mongering, and tension between parents and teens.

I founded Mindset College Collective to provide thoughtfully designed resources to help students and parents bring self-reflection, personal development, and mindfulness to the college admission process.

Let’s help the college admission process be the meaningful rite of passage that your child deserves. Because college and the transition to adulthood is important, and there are ways to bring meaning and joy to the journey.
